On a long pier overlooking Sweden’s only real fjord lies Gullmarsstrand. With its unique location, right by the sea, it creates a sense of absolute tranquility, absolute presence, and being – regardless of the season and wind speed.
In the heart of this west coast idyll lies the charming little island of Skaftö, part of the Lysekil municipality, with a beautiful archipelago outside that provides shelter from the sea waves.
This small fishing community emerged during the so-called herring period in the 18th century, leading to a significant economic boom. The settlement was along the shoreline, and on the site of the old bath restaurant, which was also the starting point for the development of the area, now stands Gullmarsstrand Hotel & Conference, since 1979.
