As close to the sea as you can get

On an elongated pier overlooking Sweden’s only true fjord lies Gullmarsstrand. With its unique location, right by the sea, it creates a sense of absolute tranquility, absolute presence, and being in the moment—regardless of the season and wind speed.

A PARADISE FOR BOTH RESIDENTS AND VISITORS

In the middle of this west coast idyll lies the charming little island of Skaftö, which is part of the municipality of Lysekil, with a beautiful archipelago outside that provides shelter from the sea waves.

This small fishing community emerged during the so-called herring period in the 18th century, leading to a significant economic boom. The settlement was along the shoreline, and on the site of the old bathhouse restaurant, which was also the starting point for the development of the area, now stands Gullmarsstrand Hotel & Conference, since 1979.

THE THREE BROTHERS

& Fiskebäckskil

One early May day over 40 years ago, the Nilsson brothers came to Fiskebäckskil. They had heard that “a big place” was for sale. Once at Gullmarsstrand, they fell in love with the location and early on saw it as their mission to create a place for contemplation and creativity here.

Inspired by the power and beauty of the place, the development of what is today’s Gullmarsstrand, hotel and conference facility, began.

Passion & Courage

Even as children, their father, who was both a chef and an entrepreneur, took them to various places throughout Sweden. After their father’s sudden death, he left behind warm memories and experiences from a working life in hotel restaurants with good food and a lively pace. The brothers wanted to cherish and further develop that legacy when they decided to enter the hotel and restaurant business and found Gullmarsstrand. A pure gut feeling.

CONFERENCES, WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS SINCE 1979

The hotel, designed by Wingårds, has slowly but surely emerged with thoughtfulness, where the facility blends softly into Fiskebäckskil. The starting point has always been the old bathhouse restaurant in Fiskebäckskil. Here, building by building and room by room have carefully and thoughtfully emerged under the steady leadership of the three brothers for over 40 years.
